Lord of the flies, chapter 5 - Summary
As Ralph is walking along the beach, he is thinking about calling a meeting to get the boys back in line, and everything going good again. When Ralph does call the meeting, all the boys go to the gathering place, while Ralph waits patiently with the conch. Ralph addresses and discusses the issues of how the shelters aren't being built, they haven't been gathering drinking water, they don't keep the signal fire going, and they don't even use the designated lavatory. He remind's them about the importance of the signal fire, and about the beast. One of the littluns claims to have seen the beast and that it may have been from the water. Jack claims that he will go and kill the beast, and him and some other boys all run off, while only Ralph, Piggy, and Simon are left. Piggy tells Ralph to blow the conch and try and get the group back together again, Ralph refuses, saying this won't do anything.
